Upon arrival at Vientiane International Airport, you will be picked up by Laos Travel's professional tour guide and friendly driver. Begin discoveries with Wat Sisaket, Vientiane's oldest surviving temple, then Pha That Luang, the most revered shrine in the country, and Patuxai Victory Monument. End the day along the banks of the Mekong River as the sun sets.

Set out on the spectacular drive north to Vang Vieng, 130km from Vientiane. On arrival, enjoy a kayaking experience with a safety briefing, paddling down the Nam Song River to Tham None (the Sleeping Cave), one of the biggest caves in Vang Vieng, once a wartime shelter and now home to a family of bats. Kayak gently back to Vang Vieng in time for sunset.

Leave Vang Vieng with a photo stop at Phatang Mountain viewpoint, plus an optional stop at Koe Kuang's forest market. Visit the picturesque Hmong village of Ban Hin Ngon before lunch at Phou Khoun. Arrive in Phonsavan, capital of Xieng Khouang Province, and take an orientation tour with the option to visit the UXO Information Centre.

Explore the 3 sites that make up the Plain of Jars, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019 and one of Southeast Asia's quietest. Discover undulating green fields scattered with around 300 giant stone jars, the largest weighing six tonnes. Observe local village life, visit a small monastery in Ban Xieng Di, and pass important Indochina War battlefields.

The long drive west to Luang Prabang, the enchanting World Heritage town and former royal capital, along winding mountainous roads reaching 1,500m altitude (approx. 7–8 hours). On arrival, enjoy free time to explore Luang Prabang's cafés and night food stalls.

Visit the former King's Palace (National Museum) and Wat Xieng Thong, the most photographed temple in Luang Prabang. Board a private boat for the Mekong cruise to the sacred Pak Ou Caves, filled with thousands of gold-lacquered Buddha statues. Continue to Ban Muang Keo Village to see weavers and whisky distillers, then climb Mount Phousi for a gorgeous town view.

Witness the Tak Bat alms-giving ceremony at sunrise, then spend the morning at Kuang Si, visiting the Bear Rescue Centre and the multi-tiered turquoise pools of Kuang Si Waterfall for a refreshing swim. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the tranquil park.

Fly south to Pakse, capital of Champasak Province. Drive through mountains and winding roads to the Bolaven Plateau, an ancient volcanic highland resplendent with jungles, rivers and ethnic communities. Visit Tad Fane Waterfalls (120m) in the Dong Hua Sao Nature Reserve, then the Tad Champi and Tad Yeung waterfalls. Visit a tea and coffee plantation and enjoy an organic coffee at Jhai Coffee House in Paksong. Transfer back to Pakse in the late afternoon.

Journey along the Mekong to Don Khong in southern Champasak, stopping at Wat Phou, a spectacular pre-Angkorian UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back more than 1,000 years. Continue to Khong Island, the biggest island in southern Laos and start of the legendary 4,000 Islands ("Siphandon"), where the Mekong stretches over 14km wide. Arrive on the peaceful island of Don Khong, home to small villages and plantations.

Embark on a traditional long-tail boat to explore the Siphandon archipelago, visiting Liphi Waterfalls ("Corridor of the Devil") and the thunderous Khone Pha Pheng Falls, Southeast Asia's largest waterfall. Enjoy a local-style lunch before returning to the mainland and transferring to Pakse International Airport for your onward flight.
