Arrive in Pakse, the third largest city in Laos. Laos Travel's guide and driver will transfer you to town. Spend the rest of the day exploring Pakse before relaxing and enjoying dinner at your hotel or a local restaurant. In the evening, stroll along the Mekong or Sedone rivers — Pakse is known for its relaxed atmosphere and leisurely pace.
Drive approximately one hour to the village of Ban Nong Luang. Stroll through town and talk with villagers about daily life in this remote part of Laos. After a safety briefing, hike through aromatic coffee fields, vegetable gardens and steep ravines, taking in a treetop canopy walkway. Pass Tiger and Kamet waterfalls and stop for a swim before beginning the zip-lining adventure. Retire to your tree house, situated over 30 feet above the forest floor.
Wake up in the trees, enjoy breakfast, then a short hike to the first zipline. Today's highlight will likely be the 400 metre flight between trees. After ziplining, enjoy a refreshing swim in Red Rock Stream. Spend the night relaxing in your treehouse accommodation.
Transition from the forest canopy to the forest floor for a challenging uphill hike past massive trees through rich forest, reaching a steep cliff face traversed via via ferrata — a series of iron bolts and rungs implanted in the rock, a safe and thrilling experience. After another trek back to town, drive to Paksong in the heart of the Bolaven Plateau, renowned for coffee production and export.
Drive northeast towards the Vietnam border to Sekong, visiting an Alak village along the way. The Alak are an ethnic group of southern Laos practising a form of animism, living in smaller houses arranged in a circular pattern around a central communal home. Continue your journey to Sekong for the night.
Drive south to Attapeu Province to visit the Brao ethnic group, one of the highlights of the trip. This unique ethnic minority has a rare preserved culture, with Brao women known for wearing large ivory earrings and facial tattoos. Spend time getting a feel for remote life in this region close to the Vietnam border.
Rise early for a 5-hour drive to southern Champasak and the island of Don Khong, passing dramatic landscapes and villages along the way. On arrival, tour the colonial holdovers — old French villas and the narrow gauge railway built during World War II. The remainder of the day is free at leisure.
Embark on a traditional long-tail boat to cruise the Siphandon riverine archipelago, exploring peaceful rural islands. Visit the awesome Liphi Waterfalls, nicknamed the "Corridor of the Devil", a natural border between Laos and Cambodia. Continue to the 10km-long Khone Pha Pheng Falls, Southeast Asia's largest waterfall by volume. Enjoy a local-style lunch, then travel back to Pakse, visiting the ancient ruins of Wat Phou in Champasak Town en route — a UNESCO World Heritage Site predating Angkor Wat by almost 500 years.
A transfer will take you to Pakse Airport for your onward travels.
